A unique way of life

Our way of life in Camphill is based on the teachings of the Austrian philosopher Dr Rudolf Steiner, whose ideas have provided the basis for much practical work throughout the world in education, medicine, agriculture, economics and the social sphere. Back in the early 1950s, communities like ours were no more than a vagu longing for many parents. It took the dream of a visionary - Karl Konig, an Austrian doctor with international reputation for his work with children with learning difficulties - to give it shape, with help of parents and like-minded benefactors. Today, there are over 90 Camphill communities worldwide. Here in Britain, adults with special needs come from all over the country to live together with people of all ages in our centres. But our future continues to depend on the help of friends.

The Camphill Family is made up of 11 communities which help adults in need of special care and understanding, and which are registered as the Camphill Village Trust Limited.

In addition to being as self-sufficient as possible, we receive help from variety of sources, including Local Authority and Goverment funding. However, all financial support for improvements, new buildings and developing our communities must come from people like you. It almost goes without saying that our way of life is not the answer to everyone's needs. But for the hundreds of vulnerable people who live with us now, or who could benefit in future, it is a valuable option in their freedom to choose a meaningful and fulfilling way of life.

Thank you so very much for the interest, support and friendship you are able to give.
